Sound Notes

I chose this track because it begins the song with a with a high pitch humming noise, this is played throughout the song. The track also includes abrupt beats that are effective. The humming noise picks up in pitch and volume throughout. The song for the most part is relatively sticks to this still style, however, it eventually picks up by including more beats in the background and increases the tempo of the track to show a change in situation. Due to the song being too long to fit into the two minute mark I will be required to cut some of the track to fit into the length of my opening and also to make sure that the song fits in well with the change in situation.

This is the track I chose as I feel that is can portray the circumstances that I wish for the opening. The constant humming in the background helps to give off a feeling of suspense and tension as the humming constantly feels as it is building up in volume, this can align the feelings of the mercenaries with the audience as it would make the audience await the change in tempo. When it does eventually pick up in tempo the song can be used to show that the situation is slowly developing into chaos, I feel that this can show the audience that the plan that the mercenaries had devised is slowly falling apart and that they may have to improvise.

The main purpose of my song choice is that I wanted a track that could successfully create the tone and atmosphere that I believe a person would feel in that situation, not only that but I also wished for the audience to have similar emotions to help them understand the situation better and feel invested in the opening. By editing the track correctly I think it will allow the premise of the story to be set to make up for the lack of dialogue that is planned for the opening and foreshadow to the audience how they feel the events in the film would unfold.

This was track that I considered using for my opening, however, as I listened to it over and thought about how it may sound in my opening I felt that it would give the audience the wrong idea about the film when compared to the preferred track I chose. The start of the track was fitting although I felt that the abrupt change in tempo and beats wouldn't really fit well in my opening.

This is the sound effect of a silenced gun I chose to use when there is moments that guns are shot in the opening, I required this sound effect due to the fact that if there was no sound effect put in place it would seem strange from the audiences perspective. Due to the amount of times the gun is fired I would need to cut the clip down to fit the amount of times the gun is fired, this can easily down when it comes to editing.

Test Footage

This is test footage we done for the media opening and a scrapped idea that we were planning to have in the beginning of our opening, however, we decided not to use the van and changed how they broke into the safehouse for a range of different reasons. One main reason being what if the van wasn't available to be used when it came to the day we filmed our shots. Another reason was that there were less people that were able to film the shots on the day so we needed to change the opening slightly to fit the number of people being in the opening.

Shots Of Location

This is the location we are going to use for our opening, we required to have a building that is considered a safe house but also needed it to be a hidden in plain sight style safe house so we decided to use the home in the center as our shooting location. This location would be important as it is the the criminal antagonist's safe house and would help show the audience how powerful and wealthy the character is.

This is a picture of one of the areas that will recorded for the film as it used to show the audience his wealth and it also allows freedom of movement when it comes to how we wish to position our shots when it comes to shooting here.

This is another shot of the area we are going to be shooting for the film opening and this is important as it can further show the audience the wealth and power this man has.

This is a shot of the location chosen to shoot the scene with the antagonist, Geoff Moses, due to the character being a manipulative person this scene is shot in the same location to show that he is planning everything from the background.

This is the location that will used for the antagonist, The Butcher's office, this was chosen as it would be a good location for him to torture someone in the interrogation
scene of the opening.

There is a risk that is associated with filming here, although unlikely they could cause serious consequences. The main issue at hand is that the road is somewhat busy from time to time and during filming we will be be in possession of fake weapons, however, it is possible that people may mistake them for real weapons and call the police, to avoid this trouble all together we need to make sure that we keep the weapons out of sight from the public to prevent this problem altogether.

Notes On Costume, Make-up and Props

Costume

The type of outfits that would be worn is very different for protagonists and the antagonist. The protagonists are mercenaries so they would be wearing clothing that is suitable for their range of work, however, because they are not actually working for the military they are not going to be wearing military grade clothing. They would be wearing clothes that are similar to military clothing, however, it is required that the protagonists add a mix of casual style clothing to make them separate from the military. The style of clothing we have chosen is suited for a mix of warm and mild weather so it is important that we choose to film on a day that has our desired weather. For example, a basic shirt and work pants is one way to dress up a hired mercenary. The antagonist is in charge of their own group of people so it’s important they all dress up in a uniform , this is important so that the audience can easily identify who belongs to which group in the film. Although, it is required that we not only show the audience who the leader of the group is by how he acts alone, we need to present him to the audience that he is superior to his henchmen by making his uniform stand out more and more presentable. For example, the henchmen could wear a dress shirt, tie, suit trousers and smart shoes, whereas, the leader should wear this but also include a blazer to make him stand out more. One of the inspirations for how we wanted the mercenaries to look is from the film Sicario and also we took some inspiration from characters in the game Battlefield 4.

Make-up

Our group will not be using make-up for the duration of our film, although we will be showing people getting shot in our film we will not be using make-up instead we will try to make it so that the camera doesn't focus on areas where they would have been shot.

Props

The props are a key factor in my film as it is about criminals and corrupt police. Weapons such as guns and knives are important to help reinforce to the audience the themes of danger and perhaps insanity about characters. For example, the antagonist has a preference of knives which shows the audience that he is insane and has complete disregard for his life as he would rather get up close and personal to kill anyone who stands in his way. Whereas, I have chosen to give the henchmen and the protagonists guns, the reason I have done this is because I wished to have the henchmen be completely different than their boss as this would help make him stand out more as a character and also to show a contrast in their attitudes as the henchmen are not as fearless compared to their boss. The protagonists have guns as they are also not as fearless when it comes to death, furthermore, I felt that it would be important to give the antagonist a motif to help the audience identify him by.
Overall

I feel that we successfully created the look that we need our characters to look in the opening to our film as we managed to get the right type of clothing for the protagonists which are consistent of mainly work trousers and one of us even needed had a tactical vest for the opening, however, if I were to improve their looks anymore it would probably be getting another tactical vest for the other character to wear, although that may go against the representation of that specific character that we wanted. When it comes to the antagonist I feel that we got the look we wanted him to be like as I said the antagonist that is a leader of an organised criminal gang needed to have a smart look to him that presented him to be quite powerful and influential to his men and the suit really that he is wearing really helped bring across that point that we were looking for. Props chosen for the opening I feel was quite successful as we had given an assault and carbine rile to the protagonists which can be used to interpret that they are more trained compared to the henchmen which are only carrying just pistols to fight back with, the antagonist uses knives and this was successful for helping create the style of character that we wanted for the film as the suit helps show the audience his influence and his status among his men however the knife can be used to represent his insane tendencies and that he is more feared among men than respected.

Synopsis For Film

Synopsis for ‘Backstabbed’

THE BUTCHER is a feared leader of one of the most notorious organisations ‘THE FIRM’. The group has been continuing to grow larger by the day as more people join. The leader has been on hunted for many months now only just eluding the grip of the law enforcement. The most recent job completed by these men is the robbery of drug money from a powerful man.

A corrupt detective, GEOFF MOSES has taken the search for The Butcher into his own hands however he doesn’t desire to bring the man to justice; all he wants is the money that was unrightfully taken from him. However, a man of his ‘stature’ cannot take such matters into his own hands so instead hires a PF (Private Force) known as the ‘COVERT OPERATIONS UNIT’ consisting of two people ALPHA and DELTA. Both of these men used to be men working for the greater good, although unexpected circumstances forced these men to leave their comrades behind and instead live a life of crime.

The hired men are tasked with infiltrating one of THE BUTCHER’s safe houses where the money is said to be stored. Once the mercenaries are fully prepared they begin the heist, however THE BUTCHER gains a sense of suspicion tells the men to be on their guard. After a gunfight ensues the mercenaries retrieve the money but discover a hostage that has been held due to being caught up in this mess.

The mercenaries discover from THE BUTCHER that GEOFF MOSES who hired them is a corrupt detective and has been working closely with THE BUTCHER as a way of controlling the criminal underworld. The mysterious hostage receives help from the mercenaries to escape being a part of following situations that are about to ensue. The four men are forced to journey through the city to avoid constant close calls with danger. The four men escape to a safe house where they can seek refuge from both ‘THE FIRM’ and GEOFF MOSES. The men discuss their lives before they became criminals, each with their own respective flashbacks. Afterwards the three men decide to create a plan to finally escape the city and end this once and for all.

With the plan ready and the target exactly where they want him they finally execute the plan. After the plan is nearly all complete with a few complications along the way all they need to do is complete the last objective, kill a corrupt detective with his ambitions set high. However, GEOFF MOSES had set up an ambush to capture and kill the mercenaries, with their backs against the wall they are only left with one choice, ALPHA and DELTA were aware of the consequences and had been setting up bombs as they executed their plan and find that the only way to remove their adversary from the world they would need to die to, they set off the bomb taking them and everyone else with them. THE END.
